The Alcazaba de Málaga, or the fortress of Málaga, is a palace/fortress dating mostly from the 11th century. It was the seat of power for the Muslim rulers of the time, and under their rule the city flourished. Eventually the Christians reconquered the region and things declined from there. The fortress itself was abandoned for centuries until the Romanticism of the 18th century brought new interest and restoration. It's a remarkable structure, similar to the more famous Alhambra in Granada.
